Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG
Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) has brought digital precision and predictability to cataract surgery.

Z-CATARACT

Machine learning algorithms, low energy concept and seamless workflow integration for outstanding laser-assisted cataract surgery.

The Z-CATARACT application uses intra-operative OCT imaging and machine learning algorithms for automated edge detections and cut placements. It offers capsulotomies with exceptionally smooth edges, very efficient lens fragmentation and amongst clear corneal incisions, also the possibility of arcuate incisions for the correction of astigmatism.

Benefits at a glance:

  • Automated edge detection and cut placements
  • Capsulotomies with exceptionally smooth edges
  • Very efficient lens fragmentation
  • Optimized phaco time and reduced energy
  • No intra-operative patient transfer needed
  • CE marked for Pediatric Cataract surgery
  • FEMTO Low Energy Concept

What's different with Ziemer?

As a pioneer in low energy femtosecond laser treatments, Ziemer’s low energy concept provides maximal precision, minimal tissue damage, minimal side effects, and less inflammatory response and is known to contribute to fast visual recovery.

Lens Fragmentation

  • Create a pizza or spiderweb fragmentation pattern, which enables a customized approach for each patient
  • The pre-chopped nucleus allows smooth and efficient removal of the pieces with minimal stress to the capsule, making it a gentle treatment
  • The quick and easy separation and emulsification of the lens optimizes phaco-time and reduces energy
Lens Fragmentation - Create a pizza or spiderweb fragmentation pattern, which enables a customized approach for each patient.

Capsulotomy

  • Laser-assisted cataract surgery allows perfect circularity and sizing of the capsulotomy
  • Intra-operative OCT imaging enables the physician to automatically or manually center the capsulotomy to the preferred ocular structure
  • Properly sized and centered capsulotomy provides a 360-degree overlapping edge and provides optic decentration of the IOL in the capsular bag after implentation
Laser-assisted cataract surgery allows a perfect circularity and sizing of the capsulotomy

Clear Corneal Incisions (CCI)

  • Determine individually the desired size, geometry and position of each incision based on the selected IOL
  • The precise cutting performance and optimal positioning at the limbus based on intra-operative OCT imaging ensure a stable interior chamber
  • With the FEMTO Z8, clear corneal incisions are more stable, self-sealed and reproducible
Clear Corneal Incisions (CCI) - Define individually the desired size, geometry and position of each incision based on the selected IOL

Arcuate Incisions

  • Intra-operative OCT imaging provides precision and control in depth, angular position, accurate arc length, optical zone and continuous curvature of the arcuate incisions
  • Software-controlled refractive incisions for astigmatism correction offer more repeatable and predictable refractive results
  • With the FEMTO Z8, the arcuate incision procedure is more gentle on the patient by sparing the corneal epithelium

Pediatric Cataract

  • The FEMTO Z8 is the only CE-marked laser approved for pediatric cataract surgery
  • A seamless workflow integration is ensured thanks to the mobility and small footprint of the FEMTO Z8
  • Largest number of cases published in peer-reviewed literature so far are with the FEMTO Z81
